Sometimes what you do is smudgy, other times if you sharpen it you see what you do more clearly, other times it's smudgy, like when you have a blunt tip. Other times you use it for other stuff not related to what you do or what you love, and it starts to blunt, wearing out.
So, as Steve Jobs says "Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work".

Formica

On a particular moment that I was not behind the computer at work, I noticed that the edges of the formica table I've used for almost two months, has this barely visible extra strip were the vertical and horizontal edges meet. It is barely visible unless you put your face close to the table, which I did.
It has a slightly lighter color than the other parts of the table, apparently it seems to make the table look old when it finally starts to decay by the constant use of the edge, for example by resting the hands there on a daily basis.
Interesting.

Car versus Man.

The car can only use gas to run, if you put something else in it, it won't work.
On the other hand the man is a extraordinarie machine. It can extract energy from thousands of sources.
I heard that people stranded on an island survived the 3 or 4 weeks prior to their rescue solely by eating the coconut flesh and drinking its water.
A neighbor of my mom in her home town managed to live almost 100 years, and his diet was mostly composed of the most basic foods, like corn tortillas and beans.
It can also create energy from sodas, chips, fried food, and almost anything that you throw at it. Of course, with no so pleasant secondary effects.

Star Wars: Clone Wars

Nice movie, nice characters.
I took a friend's kid to the movies, his mom and dad couldn't find someone to take care of him while they went to a meeting, so I offered myself.

The movie is nice, at the beginning you are offered a small explanation so everything is clear to you from the start. Episode I (and II to a extend) where so busy trying to come up with nice visuals that at times they failed to be clear at what was happening. I found myself trying to find the plot in those two movies. Anyway, back to Clone Wars.

The movie wasn't directed in the regular way, that is, artists working from a storyboard to make a scene, but almost the opposite way. They dropped the storyboard and worked on it thinking globally about scenes, about what characters where doing, and it seems to have worked.

Apparently they took the characters from the Clone Wars animated tv series and turned them to 3d. The result is great, and they introduce a new character, Ahsoka Tano

The character is lovely, apparently they changed her race (good choice) and I think we'll soon start seeing fanfiction using her :P

Logo book: Numbers

Nice find over at Scribd, a book that contains only logos that start with a number. Many of the logos won't wow you and it doesn't even have information about the business or who did the logos, but nevertheless, it's a great way to find how others came to a solution.

Interesting to know that Google Chrome UI was developed based based on The Designers Republic's work on Wipeout, a racing videogame.

Daft Punk is one of many artists that has provided music to the videogame series.

Best packaging ever

When I turned on my "super-noticing powers" on a rare moment I had some free minutes at my job (not kidding!), I grabbed a water bottle nearby and started examining it real close. I noticed how the same plastic is hard at the top, and soft the center, and again hard in the bottom. And it's also made to support the weight of about eight more boxes when it's piled up, but has to be able to deform if one wants to throw it in the trash.
And of course all of the time trying to save some material = savings.

But then I stopped to think about how nature already gives us the best packaging ever. Take for example an orange or coconut. The product is born enclosed in it,
It's made to last for weeks and even months, and it's completely organic so it won't pollute, but will also return to the Earth from where it came from. And the biggest feature of them all is that this source is renewable, a tree will produce thousands and thousands of oranges in its lifetime!
Also, an orange will withstand being carried in a truck with other hundreds or thousands oranges, arriving fresh, and not only that, but it has all the vitamins securely in it.

Money grows in trees.

Today I woke up from a dream. In it I was checking this nice font that had some nice forms, I liked the style it had but not some things in it, so deciding to make a new one based on it I started to draw over it. I finished doing the redesign, happy with the result, and when I was about to save, I woke up :(

I need to buy that always-on thingie...

Ratatouille

I think that many modern movies lack something. For example Disney-Pixar's Ratatouille.
As a comparison, while in Pan's Labyrinth we could see how the main and even the secondary characters develop over the movie, Ratatouille lacks in this area. Yes, superb animation, superb world and even excellent

graphic design.

But, the characters seem flat, one doesn't feel any kind of affinity for them. Linguini for example, begins and ends the movie as just a guy who needs to keep a job. Remy the rat begins as a talented chef and stays that way, no enlightening, no wake up call. It seemed like the movie wanted to explore many paths but fell short. It could have just focused more on a story, like Linguini's inheritance. Unless he is a MacGuffin*, a walking one...

*MacGuffin: Something that motivates the character "but is of little or no importance"

Great show! And a rare one. Great because it's so well done, and each chapter is like a mini movie. And rare because it's one of the few ones that will leave you feeling better.

Very positive, fresh and colorful, will leave you wanting more.
